As recommended by CLEAPSS. For the safe cleaning and sterilising a wide range of items including safety eyewear, the Milton steriliser fluid has been used in the medical industry for many years. This disinfecting fluid is formulated from a non-hazardous chlorine based bleaching agent that effectively kills off bacteria, fungi and viruses in under 15 minutes. This large 5 litre bottle boasts a durable handle and screw down lid allowing it to be stored safely until required. Milton steriliser can be used for everything including goggles & safety spectacles, along with surfaces and other lab and prep room equipment for piece of mind.CLEAPSS previous guidance leaflet stated this Milton "disinfectant" fluid is not the same as the "sterilising fluid" We have contacted the manufacturer and they have advised both us and CLEAPSS that this is incorrect. The manufacturer states "There is sometimes confusion over Milton Sterilising Fluid and Milton Disinfectant Fluid. Sterilising an item requires the object to be fully submerged in the Milton solution for 15 minutes. For industrial use, where Milton is used to clean surfaces (e.g. floors and worktops), items cannot be fully submerged - they are still open to the air you so you are only be able to disinfect them.
There is only one type of Milton fluid, however the 5l bottles are called ‘disinfectant’ as they are not usually used for sterilisation but for cleaning work surfaces and floors (usually industrial level). The 500ml and 1L bottles are called sterilisation fluid as they are mainly used for babies bottles and domestic utensils."Manufacturer Instructions state:For submerged sterilisation use 30ml/5litres of waterFor surface disinfection use 90ml/5litres of waterIn both situations leave for 15 minutes and disinfection/sterilisation is completeThe solution is active for 24 hoursFor sterilisation all debris and burden must be removed and items fully submerged with no air pockets
