Description

This pack provides the means for observation of Brownian Motion and requires only a microscope (200X) and suitable biological slide blanks. It includes a container of micro-spheres (1.0 micron diameter polystyrene beads) suspended in de-ionised water. Placed in the well of a suitable biological microscope slide, these can be seen to exhibit the same ′jiggling′ motion originally observed in the movement of pollen grain fragments by Robert Brown in 1827 and explained by Einstein in 1905. Background information, details of experimental protocols and video clips are contained on the accompanying two CD-ROMs.
