Edvotek Kit: DNA Paternity Testing

This experiment introduces students to the use of DNA fingerprinting (restriction enzymes, PCR, and electrophoresis) in a simulated paternity determination.

The students learn genetics and molecular biology techniques by solving a hypothetical paternity case. They then perform agarose gel electrophoresis on pre-digested DNA samples, to separate differently-sized DNA molecules and determine the biological parents of the child.

The experiment does not contain human DNA.

You Need:

• DNA electrophoresis
• Micropipettes 5-50ul (optional)
• White light box
• Microwave or hotplate

Storage:

Kit is stable at room temperature akthough it is recommended to store Ready-to-Load QuickStrip™ samples at 4°C.
