Mucor hiemalis +ve Live fungal culture
Cultures are supplied labelled, on agar slopes in screw top vials.
All fungi cultures supplied have been selected for school use and checked for purity before dispatch by the producer. Although considered to be non-pathogenic, the possibility exists of mutation, accidental contamination, or over-sensitivity of an individual to a particular organism. It is therefore important that all cultures are viewed as being potentially dangerous and are handled and treated accordingly.
Storage and shelf life
Shelf life approx 3-4 weeks at 4°C
To keep for longer you will need to subculture the fungi.
M. hiemalis (+ve strain) is found in soil, decaying plant material and on stored fruit and veg. It doesnt grow in temperatures above 35°C and thus cannot infect humans. Colonies are cottony to fluffy, initially white and later turning grey to dark brown as sporangia mature.
+ve means that the strain is viable (for innoculation etc in the lab).
Culture media: malt extract agar
Temp: 27°C
