About Us

Welcome to Breckland Scientific

A Bit Of History
Breckland Scientific Supplies was founded in 1989 in Thetford, Norfolk.  Thetford is in the District of Breckland, hence the chosen name.  The Company was originally set up as a partnership to produce chemicals and solutions to serve schools, colleges and laboratories in East Anglia.  Following the retirement of the founding partners in 2008 the new owners incorporated the business as Breckland Scientific Supplies Limited and started to focus solely on the schools market.  In 2012 an additional site was set up in Stafford for distribution of equipment and the chemicals made in Thetford.  The majority of the original Breckland Scientific staff based in Thetford were looking to retire in 2014, but recruiting appropriately qualified staff to pack chemicals and prepare solutions proved impossible.  Unfortunately, the only option was to close the Thetford site.

A chemist was recruited in Stafford and the original Thetford site manager spent 6 months in Stafford training the new chemical team.  The business grew rapidly in the following years and in 2016 a new separate chemical facility was opened.  Breckland Scientific remains a UK family owned business with a team of people who have worked together for many years.  Our combined experience in serving UK schools is in excess of 300 years!
